Batavia United Way has partnered with businesses and area nonprofits to bring free kids activities to many of the Saturday morning Farmers Market on River Street in Batavia. 2017 schedule to be announced.
DAY OF CARING — Every Fall, The Batavia United Way organizes a Day of Caring to help Seniors Citizens in Batavia rake their fall leaves. Volunteers simply bring a rake, gloves and tarps to get a raking assignment. Yards are raked ONLY, no mowing, no weed pulling. This is a fun time and ONLY two hours of your Sunday. The more the merrier, bring family & friends. For fall raking dates, to volunteer, or to sign up a Senior Citizen needing assistance, contact info@BataviaUnitedWay.org. Final date is determined by Mother Nature!
Chili Cook-off : October TBD A spicy and ‘‘hotly” contested event adds warmth to a cool fall day as well as dollars to the treasuries of two non-profit groups: Batavia United Way and the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp. Batavia Viking Ring Lodge #18 hosts their Annual Chili Cook-off at the Lodge on Van Nortwick in Batavia. This is a Chili Appreciation Society International, Inc. (CASI) sanctioned event with awards for the top 10 finalists.

BATFEST 5K WALK/RUN &/10K RUN: October 28, 2017. The Batavia United Way hosts this run with a Start & Finish at State & River Streets in Batavia along the beautiful Fox River Trail. In addition to the 5K Walk Run and /10K Run, there is a 1/4 mile Kids Run for children 10 and under. In keeping with the BatFest and Halloween theme, costumes are optional but encouraged! BATFEST COMMUNITY PANCAKE BREAKFAST: October 28, 2017 8:30 am- Noon at Pal Joey’s on River Street in Batavia
Race runners, walkers, spectators and anyone who loves pancakes is invited to attend this pancake breakfast.
Good food, a Bloody Mary Bar and entertainment on a festive Bat Fest morning. Tickets can be purchased on the race website (participating in the race is not required) at http://batavia5k10k.com/ or at the United Way tent at the September Farmers Markets.
Holiday Adopt A Family — The Batavia United Way works with the Batavia School District to identify families who need financial help getting through the holidays. In 2016 the District identified 98 families who needed assistance.
The program matches families in need with supportive businesses and community members who purchase holiday gifts for their “adoptive” families from a wish list. To adopt a family, contact melinda@BataviaUnitedWay.org. To donate, checks can be made out to the Batavia United Way, or gift card contributions to Batavia United Way, P.O. Box 372, Batavia, IL 60510. Donations can also be made online. Any donations specified for the Adopt A Family program are used only for this project.
